T. Sheri Amore Dickerson
T. Sheri is a minister and community advocate working tirelessly to improve the lives of those around her. Here’s how she describes her typical day:
I'm not sure my days are typical, I honestly wouldn't know how to define them. I start off my days at 3 or 4 am by reviewing newly presented requests for advocacy, mutual aide, and or clergy duties. I applaud myself for co-opting insomnia and turning it into a brainstorming session. I map out my day and priorities. Then I activate servanthood's mode and try to serve as people as possible with tangible needs and resolution of concerns. I always make space for children; a call to say I love you, a shared meal or laugh. I'm in constant care and response mode. Meeting with partner organizations and individuals working on empowering community (marginalized). Hanging out with my unhoused neighbors and offering supplies and nutrition options, learning life skills from them. I try to make sure I have the privilege of hugging an elder or senior member of my community daily (pre/post Covid) and gleaning from their wisdoms. I check in and on fellow Clergy Activists to see what tables need to be turned over, and help plan the actions to do so. Then I activate my quirky radical muscle and dedicate time to dismantling systems of oppression and white supremacy...this is a consistent focus and commitment. So I'm not sure how typical of a day I have. Flexibility and adapting is a necessary skill for me. And I'm fortunate to be a part of a collective community that empowers me to do so.
