Dr. Noor Jihan Abdul-Haqq

One of the only Black physicians in Oklahoma City who owns her own practice, Noor’s legacy extends from her husband and three children and all the local patients who rely on her to Barbados and the Dominican Republic where she’s volunteered to offer free medical care.

What makes you feel proud?

Assisting people to live healthier lives both physically and mentally. Whether it’s through seeing me at my pediatric office, community health center or Facebook platform.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My parents. They’ve instilled great values in me and have always pushed me to be better. They did a lot for the community when I was growing up so I have big shoes to fill.

“As a business owner, we often make mistakes, but it’s important that we acknowledge how many things are going well.”

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope to have improved systems that make things easier. I pray I spend a bit more time pouring into myself first versus everyone else.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Balancing everything while still being very present and involved with my children and spouse. Success is great but not at their expense.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Improved equal access. Whether this be food, safe neighborhoods, quality education or healthcare.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To celebrate all the small successes. As a business owner, we often make mistakes, but it’s important that we acknowledge how many things are going well.
