Jodi Berge
After years as an addict, Jodi said God “blew up her world” and put her on a path to help others. Now, she commits her time and energy to the homeless community as a way of giving back.
What makes you proud?
What I've been called to do. Because I really had no self-worth for years. I really believed I was worthless. To be called into ministry and get to do what I do now after the past I’ve had, wow! It makes me proud that God even considered me.
What keeps you up at night?
The unfairness of the world. There’s just so much injustice. I work with people coming out of jail, people who are impoverished, the homeless. I see it on a different level than most. And it’s hard.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My Grandmother. Despite the heartbreak, abuse and poverty she experienced, she never complained, she loved. She was kind, compassionate and giving. Her faith revealed the truth and reality and goodness of God. It was because of His strength she persevered.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Trying to get through to those who are lost in their pain, hopelessness and addictions and opening their eyes so they can see there is a way out! To penetrate the lies they believe to be true with the truth has become more and more difficult. I know the Way out! I was lost in addiction. I know the obstacles that hinder the path to a beautiful life.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I pray that whatever insecurities I still carry on this journey would be healed and whatever divine purpose God has planned for my life would come to fruition. I pray I would love deeper and give more.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Love: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!
“To be called into ministry and get to do what I do now after the past I’ve had, wow! It makes me proud that God even considered me.”
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
Healing the brokenness of every individual who is lost.
