Kat Chukwu

On the surface it looks like Kat owns a commercial and residential cleaning business. Below the surface, you see her heart is for equipping other women with the skills and opportunities they need to make a living.

What makes you feel proud?

Transformation. Transforming moments make me proud. When you’re able to see transformation in your work or life it puts you a little closer to your destiny. One thing that makes me exceptional is my gratitude. I couldn’t be more thankful for the strength to endure what it takes to become a business owner. I believed in myself, others supported my vision and recognized my hard work, dedication and integrity. I’m honest and very relational to each client’s needs. As a for-profit business, I believe in giving opportunity to my community through job training skills and employment.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Understanding and accepting everyone isn’t meant to grow with you during your growing season and that not all want to be helped.

“Understanding and accepting everyone isn’t meant to grow with you during your growing season and that not all want to be helped.”

What keeps you up at night?

Dependence and job security. Building a business that involves the dependence of others is hard.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope to be more impactful to my community through collaborating and educating with other like-minded businesses or individuals. Helping all to understand the importance of safe cleanliness for everyone.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Three things: First, don’t refer to your business as “mine.” It has its own identity. Second, hire slow, fire fast. Third, everyone wants to feel belonging, affirmation and meaning.
