What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

I have been the biggest obstacle in my life. I am a life-long seeker and have a tremendous amount of curiosity about life and people. I am tenacious and persevering. Fortunately, I have overcome seeing my “tiny self ” when others see my “larger self.”

What keeps you up at night?

Not much keeps me up at night at this point in my life. At 79, I have learned to “trust in the process.” A source of pride is having women tell me they have learned from me to “trust the process.” There is an amazing amount of freedom in having learned to do all I can and then trust.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Judgment of people who we perceive to be different from us. Example: we had a safe house established in our neighborhood about two years ago. At first, in my arrogance, I did not want to see that. Then I began to interact with the men who lived there; baked cookies, cakes, made pasta dishes and got to know them. They have been extremely gracious to us and now I can’t imagine my life without them. If they don’t see or hear from us for a few days, they are checking on us. A text with “how are you beautiful people doing over there?” or “Do you need anything?” Wow! How grateful I am that my eyes, ears and heart were opened to these wonderful people. I want that experience for our entire community.
