Cathy O’Connor

Take a look at the Oklahoma City skyline and you’ll see Cathy’s fingerprints all over it, as she’s worked hard to bring economic opportunities to her community. And she did it all as a single mom.

What makes you feel proud?

My daughter. My ability to make Oklahoma City a better place. Probably most proud of the new Homeland store and the Omni. And my ability to survive and thrive and raise my daughter as a single mom.

What keeps you up at night?

Thinking about what I didn’t get done during the day. And trying to figure out if I forgot to do something.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My parents and my daughter. My parents are gone now but they were such great role models as parents and great human beings. My daughter reminds me what is really important but has also been a big part of my success. The balance between work and home is what they remind me of.

“Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have thick skin and a short memory.”

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Not having enough time in the day. Getting over scheduled and not able to spend more time thinking projects through or being more strategic.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Housing affordability.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have thick skin and a short memory.
