Cacky Poarch
The list of local causes Cacky has taken on is lengthy, and with every one she brings compassion, commitment and empathy to make Oklahoma City better for all.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
This may sound strange, but my children have had the biggest influence on my life. The relationship with my kids has made me a better, more compassionate human being. When they were younger, they tested my nerves and patience to the limit, but there were lessons in each of those moments. Due to a contentious divorce, my custody battles lasted almost a decade, and it highlighted the importance of the relationship with my children. The privilege of being their Mom has been my most influential allegiance and achievement.
What makes you feel proud?
First and foremost, my kids.
“The relationship with my kids has made me a better, more compassionate human being. When they were younger, they tested my nerves and patience to the limit, but there were lessons in each of those moments.”
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
To re-envision our criminal justice system towards healing and reconciliation. Oklahoma needs to allocate more funding into mental health services, rehab programs and wrap-around family services. In the words of Oprah, we need to shift from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” I firmly believe that type of empathy could change the world.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope to be graduating from my MBA program and my son will be heading to college. It’s going to be awesome and life-changing and awesome.
