Chandy Rice

What makes Chandy Wildly Capable?

“Chandy is a wonderful leader who has been essential in Pivot’s success and a pillar of the community. She is active in her church and with her children, and she will continue to grow to be a key part of the community. Our joke around here is she knows everyone!” JENNIFER GOODRICH

What makes you feel proud?

I’m proud of my family most! And the life my husband and I have worked hard to build. We are building our family on the foundation of simplicity, our faith in Jesus and loving other people around us. We’re passing that on to our kids and hope they do the same. We live in a small house on a small property outside of the city where we raise goats and chickens (and anything else I bring home). I want my kids to learn to spend time serving other people and being outside.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My husband. He is the calm to my crazy! In our wedding vows I said he is Nick Collison and I am Russell Westbrook! I can be impulsive but he is steady and wise. Eleven years of marriage and he is such an influence on the way I make decisions. If things get crazy at work, I quite often think about how he might handle the situation and it helps me make better decisions overall. He also loves Jesus deeply and it challenges me in my faith every day.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Finding my own identity. I’ll be 40 next year and I really feel like I’m finally realizing who I am as a woman, an employee, a friend and a mom. A lot of my life I’ve been told I’m too much – Too loud! Too opinionated! Too! Too! Too! In third grade, my teacher told my mom to embrace my bossy attitude to make me a great leader. That was 30 years ago and I’m just now embracing that. I’m celebrating things that I was told were always bad and learning how they can be strengths. I’ve quit feeling guilty or embarrassed. I just say, bring it on!

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope I’m in deeper relationships with those around me. I can be very task-oriented but my goal this year is to be relational. Put down the to-do list and look people in the eyes, ask them how they are and shut my mouth long enough to listen to them. I need to quit being in a hurry and make the people I’m with feel like I have all the time in the world because they matter!
