Taryn Goodwin

She’s committed her life to other families through her midwifery practice, and now Taryn is on a mission to make sure she cares well for her own and establishes rhythms to help keep more like her from burnout.

What makes you feel proud?

I’m proud of how we’ve worked with thousands of families who know these businesses by name because they called upon us to help them, whether it was for their birth, lactation or postpartum journey, we get to bring compassionate and skilled family wellness services and education that sought to improve their outcomes.

What keeps you up at night?

It’s either an all night labor or it’s the war between my ears making plans for the next day while my body tries to rest!

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

Probably my Mom. We had a rocky relationship growing up, I moved out at 15. She was single, working through her own trauma, poverty and broken relationships and that meant she wasn’t perfect. However, she always encouraged me. When others would inspire doubt she inspired self-love and confidence. Her belief in my abilities powered me to believe, too.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Awhile back, I walked with a family who experienced great loss around the same time a family member committed suicide. It was all wildly traumatic how close to death I got and while I realized I would one day see this pain up close, I wasn’t prepared for how low it would take me. I spent almost a summer in bed when I wasn’t working. My adrenal system crashed and just about every other song on my playlist triggered me to tears for well over a year.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

If you are going to beat yourself up, do it with a feather.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

I would most of all like to help prevent traumatic birth and postpartum experiences.
