Summer Borth

Summer says she was born to teach, and although her students and classroom have looked different in changing seasons, she’s always followed her calling.

What makes you feel proud?

When a child’s understanding of math takes hold, or when a Pilates client makes an observation of their achievements, that’s when I get excited. When someone sees their own growth and is proud of themselves, that is when I feel my best. Knowing I had a small part to play in that fills my cup.

What keeps you up at night?

Everyone has those occasional stressors that will arise and make life difficult. I find that if you’re living your life the best you can, finding joy in the day-to-day, being grateful in the little things and are good to people, then at the end of the day you won’t have worries or regrets.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My family. I don’t need to make them proud, they love me no matter what I do and that makes me feel empowered.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Myself. I can sure get in my own way and have had a lifelong issue with self-worth. I think that’s why God made me a teacher. Connection and empathy are key to getting out of your own head. Helping others helps me.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Physical Pain. There are many options out there for pain relief, I hope to be of service to those in need.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

That the version of me others hold in their mind is not my responsibility.

“Connection and empathy are key to getting out of your own head. Helping others helps me.”

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope to inspire others to find their passion and that they are encouraged to take action. We all need to find the thing s that bring us the most joy, and share it.
