What makes you feel proud?
I feel proud when I look back and see what I have accomplished in my 30 years of life. There have been many obstacles and discouragements on my journey, but the Lord has never stopped sustaining me. He has always been so faithful to provide me with wisdom, perseverance, and hard work. I believe that the Lord called me to be a leader and has allowed me to be a light to those around me. In 2022, I married the love the of my life and instantly became a mom to a four-year-old little boy all the while moving into a new home, working, and starting my master’s degree to become an FNP.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
The biggest influence in my life was my grandma, Eleanor, who passed away in 2020. She was a woman of grace, hard work, love, and humor. She always did the things she said that she was going to do. One thing I will never forget that she always used to say was, “Mean what you say, and say what you mean.”
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
If I could do one thing for my community, it would be to make sure everyone has a genuine mentor, friend, and cheerleader in their life. I am so grateful for the people who have walked through life with me, believed in me, and supported me when I didn’t even know that I needed them.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
My biggest obstacle has been me. My name actually means “Worthy of Love” and I’ve struggled to accept that. I constantly feel the need to earn love by performing or putting on a smile even on the hard days.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I pray that I am more like Jesus. That I am more bold, graceful, and loving. I want to continue to make others feel loved, valued, and important. I want to find joy in the midst of chaos and not get caught up in the temporary things.
