Brooke Hutchens
Art is one of Brooke’s life joys, and she’s bringing that joy to others through creating more public art on businesses, parks and homes throughout Oklahoma City.
What makes you feel proud?
Seeing people succeed and believe in themselves to accomplish their goals and dreams brings me great joy. This applies to myself, too, but there’s something really special about seeing the people around you overcome their own obstacles and conquer the crap out of life.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My Grandmother Ruth was a major inspiration. Growing up I saw her take her passions for her craft and grow them into something so substantial and tangible that it was amazing to see her pave her own path.
She was also extremely encouraging with my artistic and creative side, so seeing a strong woman achieve her goals made it easy to see it was possible.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
There have been minor setbacks here and there throughout my life, but nothing too outrageous to be a great obstacle. Especially one I couldn’t continue to move forward. Life has a way of throwing major curve balls, but we’re all capable of catching some good throws. I’ve also been fortunate to have amazing people by my side to make those blows less overwhelming.
“Life has a way of throwing major curve balls, but we’re all capable of catching some good throws.”
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope I continue to grow as an individual, wife, sister and friend, and that I find new ways to help artists with their creative practices. Whether that’s through public art or toxin-free art supplies, I’d like to broaden that horizon and see where it goes.
