Mary Siems

When women start down a path and discover they’re good at something, many are complacent to stay there forever. Not Mary. She’s constantly asking the hard questions, pushing the boundaries, pressing through fear & inspiring her peers to do the same.

What makes you feel proud?

I feel proud when I am *actually* practicing what I preach by taking care of my brain and trying my best in all things. I feel proud when I create something that brings other people value.

What keeps you up at night?

Ahh not following through on my commitments and disappointing people!

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

I’m influenced by so many people...this question is hard because I’ve never really had a true mentor. My Mom has definitely influenced me with her perseverance, seeing her raise us after my Dad died and have a career is so impressive to me.

“I hope I am more confident in my ability to make decisions and do things on my own because I believe they are important, not because others believe they are important.”

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

An honest answer might be to say I have been my own biggest obstacle? A more genuine answer is that my biggest obstacle has been managing my mental health. At times it feels like I will be unable to accomplish everything I want to accomplish because I’m unsure when I may wake up and have depression or anxiety brain rather than achiever brain.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope I am more confident in my ability to make decisions and do things on my own because I believe they are important, not because others believe they are important.
