Makenzie Magnus

Her hope in life is that she impacts, encourages and loves others well. So it’s a good thing that Makenzie’s nominator said she’s well-known as someone who constantly seeks out opportunities to serve others.

What makes you feel proud?

I feel proud of the trust I've built with the people in my life and how that has provided a safe place for them to thrive. I feel proud of the ways I've challenged myself even when it has been hard or uncomfortable.

What keeps you up at night?

Usually, my pain or the pain of others around me is what will keep me up. Knowing the trauma the kids in my community have been through and knowing my limitations to solve it all is something I have to both release and see as motivation to continue working.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My family is hands-down the biggest influence in my life. Their opinions and support mean everything to me! Also, my team at work and specifically, my boss Clint Chamberlain.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

One of my biggest challenges, especially with work, is public speaking. It's an important and necessary part of my job but I do not enjoy it! My hands shake and I halfway black out every time I get on a stage!

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Generational trauma as it impacts so many areas in life from health, education, incarceration and relationships.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Invest in people like they will be a part of your life forever.

“I feel proud of the ways I've challenged myself even when it has been hard or uncomfortable.”

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope that I continue to grow in confidence with conflict and communication. While I've made strides in these areas, I'm constantly learning.
