Kitti Asberry

She feels God called her to public service, so Kitti feels honored to be a helper wherever she goes. Through community service, she says she found her true calling.

What makes you feel proud?

Knowing that I have accomplished something which has benefited others. I am a true public servant. I am a community leader. And when you’re helping other people, there is nothing more fulfilling than that. I believe community service is our calling. You just go help as many people as you can.

What keeps you up at night?

I’m really not a person to stay up at night. But the biggest things I’ve always been concerned about are inequality and injustice. Especially for women. We fought so long for those things and we’re still fighting them. It’s the same struggle, but I am seeing some wins. In my lifetime I’ve experienced seeing more diversity. I’ve experienced seeing less anger from people who feel they are entitled.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

Mrs. Thelma Parks. She always told me to do what you believe is right, and always thank God, for he is the one who has blessed you to do the things that you are doing. What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far? This is a question that many women will not acknowledge as "the biggest obstacle" but for me, it has been other women. Unfortunately, women tend to not support one another like we should.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope and pray that my organization WINC, Women Involved in Change is all that I imagine it will be.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

Getting people to the polls to vote on issues that directly affect and impact our community.

“I believe community service is our calling. You just go help as many people as you can.”

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

You are no greater than or no less than anyone else!
