What makes you feel proud?
My girls. That they are not afraid to be who they are because I always was. They do not apologize for who they are and they are amazing. I am proud of finally being the role model my daughters deserve. After years of addiction, I have overcome so many things including feeling like I need someone else to do hard things for me. Now, I am able to provide for my family and I do that in a role that I believe God truly wrote just for me.
What keeps you up at night?
Before, it was all the things I destroyed and felt powerless to fix. I used to not sleep because I knew that I was going to wake up to the same disaster. Now, what keeps me up is excitement. I might just be just unpacking the day and thinking about what I could do better and what I did well. But, usually I am thinking about all the possibilities and opportunities and I am excited thinking about those for others and for myself.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t quit before the magic happens.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
The strong women in my family are who I think kept me alive when I was active in my addiction. My mother, grandmother and my girls.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Believing I was worthy. Anxiety. Lack of confidence. Learning how to let go of things I cannot control and allowing God to show up. These things led to a 25-year addiction that came with many obstacles, but those things were underneath it all.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I want to continue to grow closer to God. I hope to be developing a relationship with Him and talking with Him. That starts with prayer and is something I am constantly learning as it’s part of my process of “letting go,” and I want to get better at this.
