Pam Newby

What makes Pam Wildly Capable?

“Inspired by her own daughter’s experience with childhood leukemia, Pam’s non-profit Special Care provides early childhood education, provided by degreed teachers; physical, speech, occupational, music, and behavioral therapies; licensed child care; and family support for so many.”

What makes you feel proud?

I feel proud when I get letters from parents telling me what a difference Special Care has made in their lives. I feel proud when children accomplish things that were said to be impossible!

What keeps you up at night?

Thinking about sustainability and ways to support staff who work so hard to help children and their families.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

Women leaders who have blazed trails, who saw a need and worked to make a difference, and who strengthen our community... women like Clara Luper and Jeanne Hoffman-Smith.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

Ensuring ongoing funding for Special Care. We provide education, therapeutic intervention and childcare for children ages 6 weeks to 20 years. One year from today, how do you hope you’re different? I hope I have become an inspirational leader. I hope I have encouraged at least one staff member to look at strengths instead of weaknesses, to see the best in each other and realize the importance of the work they do.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

I wish our community could be more like Special Care, where differences are celebrated, diversity is the rule not the exception and everyone feels loved!
