What makes you feel proud?
I am proud to be a child of God, of my sons, my family, my life, more than three decades of marriage and the experiences God has given me. I have been blessed to have amazing experiences and to be part of incredible organizations, building beautiful cultures, supporting others as they grow and achieve more than they imagined. I’m proud and thankful to have a close extended family with my mother and father, sister and brother, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. I am truly blessed.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
The biggest obstacle in my life so far has probably been me. I think I get in my way more than anyone or anything. I have persevered and I have achieved more than I ever imagined, but still, I can get in my own way when I can’t get out of my own head.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
One year from now I hope I am more confident, self-assured and peaceful in knowing and serving in my purpose. This seems to have been my lifetime hope and still a work in progress.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I think the best advice I’ve ever received is ‘be true to yourself.’ That doesn’t mean to be self-centered. It means be who God made you to be, use your gifts for others and don’t be who you are not. That sounds simple and so straight-forward, but it isn’t really what the world teaches you.
