Brenda Cristela Lozano

What makes Brenda Wildly Capable?

“Working with Brenda has been one of the highlights of my community organizing career. Her list of accomplishments is long but what is more impressive is her love for helping her community.” JULIANA LOPEZ

What makes you feel proud?

Seeing my loved ones and younger generations pursue their wildest dreams makes me very proud. The resilience my Latinx community has even after the many trials and tribulations we’ve had to face makes me proud. I also find pride in the small moments of joy I experience through dancing, cooking food or learning a new skill.

What keeps you up at night?

I am naturally an over-thinker so I stay up thinking about what tomorrow holds. I’m usually going over my to-do lists or reminiscing on things I just didn’t have enough time to do.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

My mom is my biggest influence. She left her hometown at such a young age in pursuit of a brighter future for herself and our family. No matter what challenge she faces, she’s able to see the positive side of things. When I’m feeling unmotivated, I know I can always call her for a little pick me up.

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?

So far, I think navigating imposter syndrome has been one of my biggest obstacles. Being a queer Latinx person has been an adventure and I love learning from new experiences, but I have had moments in my career where I felt like I wasn’t doing enough or I didn’t quite fit the mold others expected me to fit. I’ve had to shape my own path and find a way to thrive wherever I am.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

I hope one year from today I’ve passed the Bar and I’m less worried about studying. I hope in a year I’m also giving more to myself, in the same way I give to others. I also hope I’m able to enjoy each and every day without worrying about the next day too much.
