Anya Mashaney
What makes you feel proud?
I am most proud to be a mother. I hope to build a real estate business legacy for my family’s future wealth but even better, I hope to do my part in building a better city for all families.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you don’t ask, the answer is already “no.”
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
Honestly? My therapist. She has helped me work through a lot and I wouldn’t have grown to the extent that I have as a person without her guidance.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope to be a little better organized and a little more outspoken. I believe I’ve been making progress every day but I hope to see it continue in a noticeable way.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Myself and my mental health. I don’t think many of us were taught proper coping skills and assertive communication. Learning (and accepting) things about myself and strategies to manage it all has been a journey. I’m still on it, and I don’t know that I’ll ever be “finished.”
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
Quality, attainable housing for all. It’s my belief that every problem that an individual is experiencing in their personal life could be alleviated by safe, affordable housing. We have those who are chronically homeless but we also have those who are struggling to stay on top of bills, especially if a tragedy strikes and a savings is depleted. I’m not sure what “the answer” is, but I do know that it is a problem.
