Rachelle Nichols
Highly sensitive and relatable, Rachelle considers herself a good Gail to any Oprah. And all who have the privilege of knowing her agree.
What makes you feel proud?
Being able to do something meaningful that I love for a living. It doesn’t feel like work. Coming from a family of an immigrant father and a mother who grew up on a plantation in the deep south, I think it’s worth noting that I’ve turned that tide for the better.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My son is my absolute biggest influence. I guess when it hit me that I’m his first role model and I’m responsible for how he is raised, I really decided how I want to show up in this world.
“Coming from a family of an immigrant father and a mother who grew up on a plantation in the deep south, I think it’s worth noting that I’ve turned that tide for the better.”
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Hands down... childhood trauma and ancestral trauma.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope I’m wiser, richer, more patient and more present than ever.
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
Supporting teachers. I think when we help teachers and give them what they need, we will start to see more staying in the classroom. Helping teachers is the single effort with the most lasting impact on our community as a whole as we help them help our kids.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Don’t wait for the good thing to have the good feeling.
