Alyssa Weathers-Murphy
If Alyssa aligns with a cause, you can bet she’s going to to bat for it. She’s been fighting for her heritage, her community and all women in marketing, and Oklahoma City is better for it.
What makes you feel proud?
When someone I’ve helped guide, employed or mentored becomes a confident, hard-working badass.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My family. Seeing my Dad run a successful small business over the decades, experiencing my Mom’s unconditional love and strength, watching one sister become a prominent local artist without any formal classes and another put herself through nursing school as a single mom, being loved by a partner who works harder than almost anyone I’ve ever met, and who gives me his love, attention, devotion, and best advice when I ask for it. I couldn’t be who I am without these people.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I’ve been working on eliminating things that cause my brain fires and have started seeing the benefits. I want to keep pushing in this direction. I hope that I’m traveling more and have been able to build better systems and processes at work that keep things running smoothly while I’m away.
“Sadly, only .1% of creative/marketing agencies are founded by women. We are doing the work. We need to have proportionate representation.”
What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?
In my professional community, I want to make an impact on the fact that a majority of students and professionals in this space are women. Women drive purchase decisions and make up half of the population on the planet. Sadly, only .1% of creative/marketing agencies are founded by women (AdAge, 2018). We are doing the work. We need to have proportionate representation.
