Bekah Barkocy
Whether working or resting, one thing Bekah is definitely doing is making everyone around her smile.
What keeps you up at night?
It’s usually wondering if my friends who are currently experiencing homelessness are okay, did they see the forecast? Are they prepared? If not that, then it’s just my creative brain doing the most. So many ideas.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Man. I could go into all the things I’ve struggled with, but I guess the umbrella could be that I’m “too much.” Being told that so often as a kid really affected how I traversed adulthood. I have more recently removed that lie and if anyone knows me they know I’m not “too much” but ya girl is FLOSSY. I own all of who I am with grace and pride because there’s not another heart like mine in the world. Why would I tone it down?
“There’s not another heart like mine in the world. Why would I tone it down?”
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I hope I’m more wise, biblically and relationally. I hope I’m louder when it comes to injustice. And I hope I’m bolder when it comes to loving.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
My Dad told me to “fake it til I make it” when I was seven. I grabbed onto that and it made me stay hungry for the new. For the unknown. It gave me a weird confidence of knowing somehow if I stepped into something, I would accomplish something. He also always says, “shine for Jesus” which was an eye roll every time, but now I truly aim to live each day to glorify Him. So, way to go, Papa.
