What makes you feel proud?

I am proud when a plan comes together and the task is delivered flawlessly. I am proud when my son does all the things for himself to be the man he wants to be in this world. I am proud when my friends and family reach their goals. I am proud to be a Black woman of the X generation who takes on challenges, wins and brings others with her.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

The biggest influence in my life is my grandmother for her tenacity, fervent belief in having the peace in life she desired, her unshakable faith in God and her curious nature that inspired her to travel the country and abroad. Along with her love of family that goes beyond anyone’s understanding.

What’s the single biggest problem you’d like to solve in your community?

The single biggest problem I would like to solve in my community is streamlined, stress-free access to information. Access unencumbered by discriminatory roadblocks.

What keeps you up at night?

I’m a sound sleeper for sure. But if I am to say my greatest concern is the lack of humanitarianism in people today. Working in service to Senate District 48, I am concerned about how our Legislative bodies have turned into self serving machines at a high percentage. I am concerned that balance is needed to maintain our functioning democracy and not enough people seem to care about this. I’m concerned that the general public is at an all-time high of demonstrating how lackluster they feel about our society. This makes me cringe that we remain on a wheel of disparity when it comes to ethnic groups and how we relate. I’m concerned that the overarching political theme is revolving around eradicating groups and elevating one group. I’m concerned that time seems to have ticked backwards and respect of person is but a mere afterthought.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

To keep my dreams close to my heart while I work on them. What God has for me is for me; do not allow others to pressure me into doing anything I am not prepared to do. Then the world will watch me work to bring my dreams to fruition.
