What makes Shannon Wildly Capable?

Shannon is so selfless but also resilient. She is a caretaker of her family as well as her community. She is not afraid of the heavy lifting, but will always do it with style and grace. No matter the obstacles that have come her way, her spirit has never broken and she always finds a little extra light and joy to give to others.”

What makes you feel proud?

Seeing the seeds that my husband and I have planted in our daughter come to harvest. Seeds of positivity and being loving toward herself and others. When I watch Cyndal interact with other people and she’s kind, loving and positive and hearing her recite positive affirmations about herself makes me proud. I know that her father and I are doing our part with helping this world be a better place.

What keeps you up at night?

The cultural and systematic stigmas about mental health and the negative effects it has on a large percentage of the population. Looking at an epidemic so great and trying to figure out how to move the needle to initiate a swing of the pendulum.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

My spiritual mentor once said, “Mentorship is the highest form of leadership.” I completely agree. Being able to guide someone as they become the best version of themselves in their journey for life is no small initiative.

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?

The biggest influence in my life would be my late grandparents Herbert Booker Sr. and Mary Lou Booker. My grandmother was an Oklahoma City Public School teacher and one of the sweetest souls; and my grandfather was a retired Oklahoma City Police Officer and a Korean War veteran who recently passed away at the age of 95. They were both pillars in the community who helped people any chance they could and instilled the importance of family in me.

One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?

A year from now I hope I’m different by taking what I’ve learned from my painful experiences in life and using those lessons to become a creator. A creator of a solution that no one else offers; something that would have helped me when I was in the trenches. I would like to be considered a contributor to meaningful and lasting solutions.
