Diana De Santiago
What makes you feel proud?
I’m most proud when I’m able to make a positive impact, no matter how big or small. As a first generation Mexican immigrant with a college degree I’m proud of the work I’ve put in to get to where I am. I’m proud of this nomination!
What keeps you up at night?
Thinking about the next step. Wondering if I’ve accomplished all I can where I am or if there is more to do.
Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why?
My parents. They have lived a humble life, but have managed to help anyone who asks. From them I learned love and compassion and I don’t start my day without uttering those two words.
What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far?
Being shy and public speaking. When I got the email about this nomination my first reaction was to want to hurl, it literally made my stomach turn. Being in the spotlight is not always for me, but I have to remind myself of the possibilities of not staying quiet.
One year from today, how do you hope you’re different?
I just hope I continue to learn, be a better person and lead with an open mind.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Seems simple, but to speak up. I wouldn’t be where I am if I didn’t. It’s easy to dismiss the shy, quiet person.
