What makes you feel proud? 

I feel most proud when my team succeeds. There is no bigger compliment as a leader when your people are growing, overcoming challenges and achieving their goals. I’m also really proud of how I’ve been able to build a successful career while protecting my mental health. 

Who is the biggest influence in your life? Why? 

Candor’s founder and CEO, Karen Wicker, completely changed the trajectory of my career. At the time, I was working for a small public affairs firm doing issue advocacy work. I was extremely content, but I was babysitting for Karen on the side and she continued to plant seeds about working at Candor in public relations. I had never written a press release nor could I name the local news stations— critical know-how for the job. I was skeptical. Karen saw potential and encouraged me to take a risk and bet on myself. 

What’s been the biggest obstacle in your life so far? 

Right after college, I was working 80 hours a week in politics in D.C., which led to a mental health crisis. I ended up quitting my job and spending more than six months at my parent’s house healing and in therapy. At the time, I truly thought I might never work again. However, I persevered and got strong enough to move to Oklahoma. My ambition makes me vulnerable to workaholic tendencies, which I must intentionally, mindfully combat. I’ve grown and advanced in my career, but I now maintain space for personal relationships, volunteerism, exercise and even rest. I work for a company that encourages everyone to set and maintain healthy boundaries, and we watch out for each other. But I’ve also had to learn to self-regulate. Every week isn’t balanced perfectly, and this will be a lifelong journey for me, but I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come.
